  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
The change in artists is jarring, but they’re back to the style of art for the series that I remember from volume one.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
The cover is a three panel fold out that surprised me.  The story inside has been told a few times (scarlet <3 snake eyes on a boat) and does not feature anyone that’s on the cover, but man that cover is great.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
I’m not sure if I’m a fan of having this world altering series come out monthly while other issues of the world are coming out at the same time.  At the end of the day the other series were off doing their own thing in other universes (shadowman) or doing flashbacks (x-o manowar), but I think it would have served everyone better if this was a weekly for an entire month.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
I still need to pick up the first issue of this (or just get the TPB), but the fourth issue wrapped up the story in a satisfying way with art that was on par with what I expect from a Dredd book.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
This was on my pull list at LOCG, but I neglected to actually order it or even pick it up after noticing my negligence.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
Not the last issue?  I thought this was a four issue mini series, but it’s not.  The art is fantastic, the story is middling, but maybe it’s going to go somewhere in issue 5?

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
A story that doesn’t matter in a series that’s already been canceled, but for the completionists out there you get to see how Poe Dameron does a thing!

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
These books are good, but good grief they are dense. This one I had to read in a couple sittings, there’s just so much going on with each page, I really wanted to let it soak in.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
I’m not really too happy with this flashback story over 4 months, but I guess they had to do something with X-O while the Harbinger’s war story was going on.  I’m not happy with what they did with X-O in that story either, so I’m really hoping they get back to stories that are palatable in the main series.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MARVEL VS. RONAN 1 323x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
The Supreme Intelligence plays around with Captain Marvel (who’s a combination of two people at this time) and then at the end of it, just spirits him away to an unknown corner of the universe.

KICK ASS 12 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
I’m a fan of this cover, but the content inside is great too. The bad guy here has an unfortunate similarity to Marvel’s Juggernaut, and that’s all I could think of the entire time he appeared.

STAR WARS AGE OF REPUBLIC COUNT DOOKU 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
Count Dooku was never in my top 100 Star Wars villains, but this story certainly did him justice.

TOM CLANCY’S THE DIVISION EXTREMIS MALIS 2 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
Diamond neglected to ship #1, so I’ll wait for the entire series now to read this. Thanks, I hate it.

HIT GIRL SEASON TWO 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
This story is as contrived and offensive as possible, something that I guess I should have expected, but it’s not offensive in the way that red hats are, it’s offensive in that it’s directly comparing kids killing each other in American schools. Not something that I thought I’d ever see Kevin Smith write in a comic book, and definitely not something I’m a fan of. This book came out during the anniversary of a shooting in Florida, in which 17 children were murdered by one of their peers, then the state government did absolutely nothing about the problem. I’m sorry, they did blame the victims, that was great. They blamed the police who responded too, and they blamed the school board, but heaven forbid they blame the easy access to weapons.

THE PUNISHER 8 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
The Punisher’s face and head are all messed up in this book, I’m honestly curious how they’re going to make him look more like Frank again and less like Jigsaw.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MAR VELL 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
I’m pretty sure this is the issue that immediately proceeds Carol Danver’s first meeting with the Kree warrior that was previously a True Believers issue as well. Is this the first time that two issues of True Believers are of the same series sequentially?

ACCELL 18 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
He’s made of balls apparently.

LIVEWIRE 3 330x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
I had to go back and re-read #2 to really know what was going on here, but I’m still lost now.

OBLIVION SONG 12 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
This went directly into my “read this later” pile, I have issues 1-2 and now 10-12, just need to fill that massive hole in the middle there.

STAR WARS HAN SOLO IMPERIAL CADET 4 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
Han Solo: Imperial Cadet can do no wrong!

STAR WARS ADVENTURES 18 329x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
Diamond neglected to ship this book to my comic shop, so no review.

INCURSION 1 330x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
Absolutely fantastic story that I feel like I was missed the first couple issues of, but didn’t feel like it was necessarily a bad thing.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MARVEL BINARY 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
The X-Men in space, along with a depowered Carol Danvers, encounter some aliens that do experiments on Carol. She ends up with “Binary” powers and uses them to recharge the x-men’s warp drive to send them on their way, while rejecting her human heritage. She then goes on to wander space.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MARVEL EARTHS MIGHTIEST HERO 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
One of the more recent True Believer books I’ve read, this is the story of how she went from the cutesy “Ms Marvel” to using the more badass name of “Captain Marvel”. It’s a fun story.

SUPERB 17 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
An afteraction report of the action in the previous book, with some holier than thou line thrown at the bad(?) guy. The follow up story was interesting but not enough.

JUDGE DREDD TOXIC 4 329x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
Diamond neglected to ship this book to my comic shop, so no review.

RELAY 4 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
On his search for the creator, our hero finds more than he bargained for.

SOLO A STAR WARS STORY 5 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
Solo was one of my favorite movies of the year, and the scene that they replicate in this book is one of my favorite scenes.

It is not done as well here and I regret buying this book.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MARVEL KREESKRULL WAR 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
The Avengers and Captain Marvel in a book with way too many words in it.

X O MANOWAR 24 330x500 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
X-O needs to reboot, which is going to take 24 hours(?!), so while he waits for the reboot he gets his butt kicked from here to there, then from there and back again.

BATMAN BEYOND 29 329x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Batman Beyond fighting the Joker with some weird twist ending.

BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT 4 330x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Boring.
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER 2 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
I’m still not happy with this weirdo elseworlds version of Buffy. it’s too brief, the story is too jilted and I think I’m going to drop it from my pull list.

FIREFLY 4 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Still an ok series but I’m really not sure where this is all going.

HEROES IN CRISIS 6 329x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
The reuse of panels is a huge problem with this mini series and the content feels horribly stretched out. So far I think the 5 issues could have been condensed down to two.

KINO 14 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Was that time travel? Who knows!

ASPEN COMICS 2019 YEAR AHEAD 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Who knew that Aspen was still publishing? Raise your hands!

MARVEL PREVIEWS 20 333x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Diamond neglected to ship even a single one of these to my LCS. Thanks Diamond!

STAR TREK THE Q CONFLICT 2 329x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Diamond neglected to ship even a single one of these to my LCS. Thanks Diamond!

STAR TREK VS. TRANSFORMERS 5 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
One of the best retro future comics I’ve read in a long time. It never once waivered in delivering the exact feel of both the Star Trek Animated series and the Transformers series. It’s hokey and corny and I loved every page of it.

STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA 29 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Doctor Aphra <3 killer robot man. SUMMIT 13 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
they really nailed the one legged man’s attitude. he could have only gotten more perfect if he was wearing a MAGA hat.

THE FORGOTTEN QUEEN 1 329x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Why did anyone forgot this woman? She apparently killed thousands and she isn’t even a footnote? I look forward to reading more about her and how forgettable she is.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MARVEL AVENGER 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
True Believers usually pull from the deep archives, and this is no different. It’s deep and I just couldn’t care about this story here.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MARVEL BETRAYED 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
I think Ms Marvel was only in about 5 panels of this otherwise fantastic story, though it was weird to have all the x-women in swimsuits just randomly in the third act.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MARVEL NEW MS. MARVEL 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 27th, 2019
Lizard men!

CHAMPIONS 2 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 6th, 2019I’m saving this one for when I fill the 10 issue hole I found I have, then I’ll re-read all of them G.I. JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO 259 329x500 Comic Review for week of February 6th, 2019Story continues to move along at a fast pace and the art is ok.  Not sure if this book is going to survive my next subscription culling.G.I. JOE SIERRA MUERTE 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 6th, 2019Horrible Art, uninteresting story and I have the next 3 issues on order all ready 🙁 HALO LONE WOLF 2 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 6th, 2019Lone Spartans are the best kind of Spartans, and this is the best kind of story.
YOUNG JUSTICE 2 329x500 Comic Review for week of February 6th, 2019The story is going in a completely bat crap crazy direction, which I truly love.
NOBLE 15 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 6th, 2019If you could fly, would you? I would.
STAR WARS 61 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 6th, 2019There’s a lot of cross chatter about Aphra here, but no appearance.  Han does get back to the Falcon though, so that was a pleasant reunion to witness.
STAR WARS AGE OF REPUBLIC ANAKIN SKYWALKER 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 6th, 2019Anakin Skywalker is always a bit of a mess of a character to do stories with.  He’s a mass murder that hunted down and killed thousands of men, women, and children, and yet most authors want to write him like he’s a great guy that just happened to go wrong one day. THE FREEZE 3 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 6th, 2019The story is going places that I guess I should have guessed, but I didn’t, so I’m somewhat surprised by the twists and turns every time.TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MARVEL MS. • Comic Review for week of January 16, 2019
The above scene does not happen in the book, but the stuff that DOES happen is pretty fun.  If a bloodbath is your definition of fun.

  • Comic Review for week of January 16, 2019
I’m really digging the fact that there are aliens in the Dredd-verse.  It’s weird to wrap my head around, but I dig it.

  • Comic Review for week of January 16, 2019
End of the series?  This final story wraps up a whole bunch of interesting things that were just really starting to come to light.

  • Comic Review for week of January 16, 2019
Why yes that is a Transformer that’s in the shape of the TOS Enterprise.

  • Comic Review for week of January 16, 2019
Three different stories, all of them good and worthy of a whole book.

  • Comic Review for week of January 16, 2019
Pretty sure I should have read the first 10 issues of this series to get even a clue as to what’s going on here.

  • Comic Review for week of January 16, 2019
At no point did this scene happen in the comic.  The B-Story in this book was better then the A-Story.

  • Comic Review for week of January 16, 2019
These True Believer books are usually a bit of a slog to get though, the writing and art from so long ago are at times rough, but these four Conan ones have really exposed me to some cool stories.  In this one there’s a mage with golden bones that’s holding a monster at bay, all while marrying a kidnapped princess.  I loved every minute of it, but was happy when I was done.

  • Comic Review for week of January 16, 2019
A group of black African warriors as led by a raven haired white girl.  Ok.

UNIT 44 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019These comics remind me a lot of comics from the 70’s and 80s, for all the right reasons, including that glorious price.

BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT 3 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Still no delivery from Diamond for this issue.

EXILES 12 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019This is the final issue in a series that I never felt found its feet but none the less had fantastic ideas and art.

HEROES IN CRISIS 5 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019This entire mini series has been peppered with amazing art, a poor story, and art that’s repeated 9 times on a single page.

INCIDENTALS 15 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019I think this is only my second issue of this series, so I’m pretty lost.

INFINITE DARK 4 329x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Final issue of the first story arc and wow this is great comic book horror.  I look forward to the next arc in a couple months.

KINO 13 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019No idea, but it wasn’t terrible.

LOST IN SPACE COUNTDOWN TO DANGER 1 326x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 201950 pages for $18, not worth it at all.  I regret buying this an urge you to not waste your money.  The cover for this comic was thicker than the pages were!

MARVEL KNIGHTS 20TH 6 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019I didn’t realize this was a mini series, but this was the last issue of it.  It felt rushed and left all sorts of plot threads just hanging around out there, so I’m sure there will be a sequel.

MARVEL PREVIEWS 19 362x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019It’s just a preview of stuff that’s coming up.  I’m going to stop getting these because they’re nearly pointless at this point in time.

MYSTERIES OF LOVE IN SPACE 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Frustratingly enough, the story that interested me was how Lois Lane fell in love with Darkseid.  Guess what story wasn’t in here?  There’s a couple others that by far make up for the insult of advertising an interesting story on the cover and not even mentioning it inside.

SOLO A STAR WARS STORY 4 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019I’m done with these adaptations, they’re just so lifeless and pointless.

STAR TREK THE Q CONFLICT 1 329x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019I’m not a fan of what’s going on here.  The concept at it’s root is pretty cool, but it just feels so contrived that I nearly broke an eyeball whilst rolling it every other page.

STAR WARS ADVENTURES 17 COVER B 329x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Flight of the falcon continues!  Han finally gets shot at …again!

STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA 28 324x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Doctor Aphra’s adventures with the burder bot continue.

THE PUNISHER 7 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019Frank is still imprisoned in a soon to be new country and I have to say I’m really interested in seeing how they’re going to resolve this.  My money is that everyone gets away and there are no major deaths.  Major props to Marvel for referencing content from the original Punisher run though!

TRUE BELIEVERS CONAN RESURRECTION 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019

TRUE BELIEVERS WHAT IF CONAN THE BARBARIAN WALKED THE EARTH TODAY 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019

UNCANNY X MEN 3D 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of January 30, 2019One of the most gimmicky things comics has ever done is the 3d glasses art style, and like a sucker, I went and bought this one for way too much money.  The effect is nearly ruined by the red part of the glasses being too dark, and none of the character’s personalities are recognizable to their modern versions, but it was still a fun read, and a reminder that I should stop buying into gimmick books just to say I experienced the stupid gimmick.

Notable mentions:

  • Captain Canuck First Summer Special – Printed the same month that I was born, this is a hilariously poorly printed and constructed book, there’s no set uniform for the Captain, the stories are jumpy, and there’s likely not a single page that was error free.  I loved this look into how poorly a book can be published and how quality control for both the character’s designs and print production go hand in hand in making a good comic book experience.
  • X-O Manowar #19 75th issue anniversary, which was shipped late by Diamond, a great story about picking up the pieces from the rushed and poorly executed “harbinger 2” mini series.  All the post-war stuff has been so much better than the actual mini series, I do wonder if that was intentional somewhat.  Also, the numbering shenanigans reminds me that it’s not just the big two that have problems with counting.
