STAR WARS GALAXYS EDGE 1 ATTRACTION VARIANT 329x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
First issue of the “galaxy’s edge” series and I’m already bored.

SUPERB 19 325x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019 THE FORGOTTEN QUEEN 3 329x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019

TRUE BELIEVERS AVENGERS ROCKET RACCOON 1 321x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
Rocket’s origin story is weird AF, but I think it would fit in to the MCU with some slight tweaks.

TRUE BELIEVERS AVENGERS FOREVER 1 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
This was an odd choice for a True Believers book, as it’s the first in a 12 issue storyline, which I guess isn’t TOO weird if you view these things as ads for a trade collection that’s about to come out.

TRUE BELIEVERS STAR WARS ASHES OF JEDHA 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
This goes for all the Star Wars True Believers this month: Marvel only just recently got the license for the books back and as such they only have a few years of recent history to mine for promotional content to be used in the TB series of books. That being the case, it’s weird to see TB books from issues that came out just a couple years ago, with the exception of Star Wars #107 from Marvel’s original run. I missed the vast majority of that series when it first ran, so from everything I’m seeing, it was a weird and wacky world of completely goofy but cool stuff that I may need to check out more in depth.

ASCENDER 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
Best book of the week, this series really hits the ground running and I love the idea of moving forward a decade or two in time. Hype!

BATMAN BEYOND 31 329x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
My comic shop neglected to pull this for me, and still hasn’t been able to get a copy for me yet. This is beginning to be a problem >:(

BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT 6 329x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
A great restart/origin story that’s continuing to be great.

FIREFLY 5 325x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
A not so great restart to the Firefly comics that continues to not be all that great.

G.I. JOE SIERRA MUERTE 3 329x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
What an absolute horror of an issue. I’m going to make a note of both the author and artists and try to avoid them in the future, this just isn’t for me.

HEROES IN CRISIS 8 329x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
A confusing issue of a confusing series.

KINO 15 325x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
I’m thinking I need to go back and re-read this entire series, I feel like I may have missed something important.

TRUE BELIEVERS STAR WARS THE ORIGINAL MARVEL YEARS 107 324x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019

PUNK MAMBO 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
Valiant books have had a weird history of dipping in quality, then immediately coming right back up. This is one of those dips, I just don’t understand this character, nor her motivations.

STAR TREK WAYPOINT SPECIAL 2019 1 329x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
See Below:

STAR TREK YEAR FIVE 1 329x500 Comic Review for week of April 24th, 2019
Having two #1 issues of Star Trek that open with a TOS story was a mistake. I can’t remember which is which and to be honest, I don’t care to, both are perfectly ok stories, but separating them in my mind is difficult. IIRC, the Year Five story is the better of the two, but the Waypoint Special had the benefit of having multiple stories, some of which were good and at least one that was so confusing that I actively hated it by the end. Sidenote, Waypoint has nothing to do with the Encounter at Farpoint, which was my original assumption.

PUNK MAMBO 5 Comic Review for week of August 16th, 2019
The end of a relatively interesting story that never really captured me. This was my first real introduction to the character and for all intents and purposes she’s a fairly irredeemable character

STAR WARS ADVENTURES ANNUAL 2019 Comic Review for week of August 16th, 2019
Two fun stories in a book that has a legit spine.

THE ORVILLE 2 Comic Review for week of August 16th, 2019
Good wrap up of a story that I would have read 10+ issues of. I hope they revist this planet and history again.

STAR TREK YEAR FIVE 4 Comic Review for week of August 16th, 2019
Spock rocks the vote, all while the Enterprise is helplessly floating around space doing not much of anything because of a mutiny attempt.

THE LIFE AND DEATH OF TOYO HARADA 6 Comic Review for week of August 16th, 2019
Good wrap up, I suggest this mini series, it’s goooood.

OBLIVION SONG 18 Comic Review for week of August 16th, 2019
I have all the back issues for this on order and they should be to me by next review!

SECOND COMING 2 Comic Review for week of August 16th, 2019
I’m still surprised at how earnest and wholesome this series has ended up being. Sure, it opens on a decapitation, but that served the story well.

HIT GIRL SEASON TWO 7 Comic Review for week of August 16th, 2019
Hit-girl makes some new friends!
Hit-girl’s new friends get all shot up!

STAR WARS TARGET VADER 2 Comic Review for week of August 16th, 2019
“You wanted Vader? Well here he is!” he says as he runs from Vader. i’m happy to see this bounty hunter back in action, and i’m really happy I read star wars 108 before this series started.

STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA 35 Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
Events on the cover do not happen in the book. Not to say that this a bad cover (might complain about what she has on it though), or that the story inside is bad, just a weird fetish of mine is to complain when the advertisement on the cover doesn’t reflect the story being sold inside.

GHOST SPIDER 1 Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
First issue of her third or fourth series, she finally has a name, though that was given to her in the previous series. Marvel has really leaned into the idea of just re-numbering the series when sales start to lag, luckily they’re also using the legacy numbers along with this, so it’s the best of both worlds. This was my first issue of any of her series that I’ve read and my only exposure to her has been through the spider-verse storline, then the spider-verse movie. I love the concept, and I love her costume, but as of this issue I’m learning that it’s alive somehow? Might be a symbiote? I dunno! I may or may not go back to buy previous issues to find out, but I feel like she’s one of those characters that has most of her growth in series that are not her own, primarily the spider-man books, and to figure out her story is going to be a serious pain in the ass.

LIVEWIRE 9 COVER B Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
She’s getting into politics! What a waste of a fantastic character!

PSI LORDS 3 Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
They’re still on the run from the bad guys from the first issue, I’m on the fence on if I like these characters or not.

STAR WARS TIE FIGHTER 5 Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
Star Wars story about the bad guys killing the good guys, but being sympathetic while they kill them. ehhhhh.

MARVEL ACTION AVENGERS 7 Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
MODOK is triumphant! Mostly!

MARVEL ACTION CAPTAIN MARVEL 1 Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
The art direction is pretty weird, but I’m still enjoying the Marvel Action books more than the mainline Marvel books.

MARVEL ACTION SPIDER MAN 7 Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
I can’t remember if 616 Black Cat had luck based abilities, all I remember about her is that she was a burgler that hooked up with Spidey a few times. She’s a luck based burgler here in the MA universe, but there’s been no Spidey flirting yet.

STAR WARS ADVENTURES 24 Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
Golly I’m enjoying the Adventure books!

VAMPIRELLA 2 Comic Review for week of August 21st, 2019
… I only bought it because of the Art Germ cover, but this storyline is weak sauce, throwing out the last 20-30 years worth of story and just pick up where the author previously left things when he left the character in ye olden days.

Not-snake eyes is under surveillance by Cobra! Yo Joe Cola makes an appearance!

KILLERS 2 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
More ninja on ninja violence, when will it stop? Hopefully not any time soon!

MARVEL COMICS 1000 SKOTTIE YOUNG VARIANT Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
I absolutely loved this cover, it’s a fantastic celebration of the wonder of Marvel Comics. The content inside was a waste of time reading and had absolutely no redeeming value.

STAR WARS AGE OF RESISTANCE POE DAMERON 1 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
Poe belongs to the stars, but they shoved in someone else for this story to take the punch out of a story that should have been his alone.

SPIDER MAN LIFE STORY 6 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
I’m still missing #2 and #3, so I’ll hold off to review until those are done.

STAR TREK YEAR FIVE 5 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
Love the cover, love the story, just wish we got more Trek comics of this quality.

STAR WARS AGE OF RESISTANCE GENERAL HUX 1 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
Who knew that the cry baby general from the First Order came from a troubled childhood?

STAR WARS GALAXYS EDGE 5 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
The end of an interesting story that ultimately went no where.

AMAZING SPIDER MAN VENOM 3D 1 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
3-D gimmick! McFarlan is a great artist to do this with, as he’s always throwing extra stuff in for the backgrounds and his spidey art is highly dynamic. Specifically there was a scene with some pigeons flying around, then a scene with spidey in the air and his webs flying all around him that worked really well for the 3d effect.

ASCENDER 5 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
continues to be the first thing I read when it comes time to reading my weekly pulls.

BARACK PANTHER BARACK IN BLACK 1 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
Not a great book, but come on, the parody cover alone was worth the price of admission.

BATMAN BEYOND 35 VARIANT EDITION Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
I think I’m back on board with what’s going on here, the villains are more better well explained and there’s a guest star in the last panel!

BATMAN CURSE OF THE WHITE KNIGHT 2 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
The creative team on this book is just mind blowingly good. May they always have access to the Batfamily!

DOCTOR MIRAGE 1 Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
I love this cover and I love what they’re going for here.

And now, some reviews for books that didn’t just come out, but I just read:

STAR TREKLEGION OF SUPER HEROES HC Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
An interesting concept and I’m surprised as how well it worked. LCS was having a half off sale on their hardcovers and I’d had my eye on this one for a while, and at that price it was well worth my time to read.

AVENGERS EARTHS MIGHTIEST HEROES II HC Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
I actually bought the 8 single issues and the covers for them are pretty dope, they spell out AVENGERS and looks amazing all lined up. The story inside is not as interesting and seemed to meander for most of the mini series with no real point to the whole thing. I also bought the first mini series, it has the same situation, cool covers, but I’m assuming the story is going to be less exciting.

THE FIX VOL. 1 WHERE BEAGLES DARE TP Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019FIX VOL. 3 TP Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019THE FIX VOL. 2 LAWS PAWS AND FLAWS TP Comic Review for week of August 28th, 2019
I think I bought these because I found them for three or four bucks each on amazon and I had read the Image Firsts version of the first issue and was somewhat interested in the story. It’s a great story and some good art, but at the end of the day I don’t think this series is for me.

The change in artists is jarring, but they’re back to the style of art for the series that I remember from volume one.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
The cover is a three panel fold out that surprised me.  The story inside has been told a few times (scarlet <3 snake eyes on a boat) and does not feature anyone that’s on the cover, but man that cover is great.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
I’m not sure if I’m a fan of having this world altering series come out monthly while other issues of the world are coming out at the same time.  At the end of the day the other series were off doing their own thing in other universes (shadowman) or doing flashbacks (x-o manowar), but I think it would have served everyone better if this was a weekly for an entire month.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
I still need to pick up the first issue of this (or just get the TPB), but the fourth issue wrapped up the story in a satisfying way with art that was on par with what I expect from a Dredd book.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
This was on my pull list at LOCG, but I neglected to actually order it or even pick it up after noticing my negligence.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
Not the last issue?  I thought this was a four issue mini series, but it’s not.  The art is fantastic, the story is middling, but maybe it’s going to go somewhere in issue 5?

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
A story that doesn’t matter in a series that’s already been canceled, but for the completionists out there you get to see how Poe Dameron does a thing!

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
These books are good, but good grief they are dense. This one I had to read in a couple sittings, there’s just so much going on with each page, I really wanted to let it soak in.

  • Comic Review for week of August 29th, 2018
I’m not really too happy with this flashback story over 4 months, but I guess they had to do something with X-O while the Harbinger’s war story was going on.  I’m not happy with what they did with X-O in that story either, so I’m really hoping they get back to stories that are palatable in the main series.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MARVEL VS. RONAN 1 323x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
The Supreme Intelligence plays around with Captain Marvel (who’s a combination of two people at this time) and then at the end of it, just spirits him away to an unknown corner of the universe.

KICK ASS 12 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
I’m a fan of this cover, but the content inside is great too. The bad guy here has an unfortunate similarity to Marvel’s Juggernaut, and that’s all I could think of the entire time he appeared.

STAR WARS AGE OF REPUBLIC COUNT DOOKU 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
Count Dooku was never in my top 100 Star Wars villains, but this story certainly did him justice.

TOM CLANCY’S THE DIVISION EXTREMIS MALIS 2 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
Diamond neglected to ship #1, so I’ll wait for the entire series now to read this. Thanks, I hate it.

HIT GIRL SEASON TWO 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
This story is as contrived and offensive as possible, something that I guess I should have expected, but it’s not offensive in the way that red hats are, it’s offensive in that it’s directly comparing kids killing each other in American schools. Not something that I thought I’d ever see Kevin Smith write in a comic book, and definitely not something I’m a fan of. This book came out during the anniversary of a shooting in Florida, in which 17 children were murdered by one of their peers, then the state government did absolutely nothing about the problem. I’m sorry, they did blame the victims, that was great. They blamed the police who responded too, and they blamed the school board, but heaven forbid they blame the easy access to weapons.

THE PUNISHER 8 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
The Punisher’s face and head are all messed up in this book, I’m honestly curious how they’re going to make him look more like Frank again and less like Jigsaw.

TRUE BELIEVERS CAPTAIN MAR VELL 1 324x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
I’m pretty sure this is the issue that immediately proceeds Carol Danver’s first meeting with the Kree warrior that was previously a True Believers issue as well. Is this the first time that two issues of True Believers are of the same series sequentially?

ACCELL 18 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
He’s made of balls apparently.

LIVEWIRE 3 330x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
I had to go back and re-read #2 to really know what was going on here, but I’m still lost now.

OBLIVION SONG 12 325x500 Comic Review for week of February 13th, 2019
This went directly into my “read this later” pile, I have issues 1-2 and now 10-12, just need to fill that massive hole in the middle there.

THE LIFE AND DEATH OF TOYO HARADA 5 COVER D PRE ORDER BUNDLE COVER Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
Ah, there it is, the twist I was expecting. It landed pretty well though!

THE ORVILLE 1 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
A great first issue, set between seasons, so I’m sure they’re not going to destroy the ship or kill off main characters. I’m sure they knew that people would expect that though, so they’re going in directions that fill in back plots and introduce some cool third party characters from off the ship.

THE PUNISHER ANNUAL 1 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
This must be the 5th or 6th “Annual #1”. I miss the days they just named the annuals after the year and didn’t number them. This was an ok issue, not much really stuck in my head.

TRUE BELIEVERS ABSOLUTE CARNAGE MAXIMUM CARNAGE 1 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
The silver surfer is somehow taken as hostage by Carnage. I didn’t read this back when it was originally published but now I’m really curious about what the backstory is and how SS gets out of the situation.

TRUE BELIEVERS ABSOLUTE CARNAGE MAXIMUM CARNAGE 1 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
I remember the doppelganger from only a single issue, but apparently he showed up in a few other issue, which is pretty cool. I liked him as a character.

FIREFLY 8 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
I somehow missed two issues of this series. I’m pretty sure my LCS is to blame this time and not diamond, but that’s always up in the air, isn’t it? Was it diamond that forgot to ship the correct number of issues or was it my shop that forgot to pull it for me? And honestly I should have noticed at the time that they were missing, so ultimately, it’s my own dang fault. Regardless of the two missing issues, this issue was a fun read and I apparently didn’t miss much of anything.

G.I. JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO 264 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
Meh. The robot/A.I. storyline is overstaying it’s welcome, and I’m nearly 100% certain I’m not going to be happy with how it’s resolved.

HIT GIRL SEASON TWO 6 COVER B PARLOV Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
Hit-Girl makes friends and kills nobody in this issue, but several dudes get their peens cut off and put into a box.

INFINITE DARK 8 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
End of storyline #2, and what a fantastic ending it was!

MARVEL ACTION CLASSICS CAPTAIN AMERICA 1 Comic Review for week of February 20th, 2019
I didn’t order this originally because I assumed “classics” meant that it was a reprint and at full price. Turns out it’s not a reprint and IDW is just really confused on what to name their Marvel books. LCS saved me a copy though!
