untitled 1 1304564925 Politicians Mother Makes Him Apologize for Calling Neil Gaiman Pencil necked Weasel

A Minnesota legislator had a bit of a jocks-vs-goths meltdown this week when he declared best-selling comic book writer and novelist Neil Gaiman to be a “pencil-necked little weasel who stole $45,000” from the state in the form of a speaking fee (that the writer ultimately donated to charity). The remark came from House Majority Leader Matt Dean, who is trying to pass new legislation changing the way programs for culture and the arts are funded in Minnesota. The Republican apologized after he was admonished by his mother.

godzillafinal Godzilla comic shop cover

So apparently some comic company is doing some promotion somewhere and sometime in the recent past, in which a comic shop could pay them to be featured on the cover of the latest #1 of some kind of Godzilla comic book.  This image is of my local comic shop’s cover that they got done did for them on up there.  I think I’ll buy me a copy of that there comic once I’m in the black again.

Did anyone else happen to catch their local comic shop’s cover?

bone collection 500x359 Bone: 20th Anniversary Full Color One Volume debuts in San Diego

–Shipping this summer just in time for the San Diego Comic Con is the Bone: 20th Anniversary Full Color One Volume Collector’s Box Set. It includes a hardcover collection of the series, a signed art print, pewter figures of the three Bone cousins, a miniature facsimile of Bone #1, a new essay by Smith, an expanded Cover Gallery of the Bone comic books and graphic novels, an illustrated 20-year timeline, a copy of the DVD The Cartoonist: Jeff Smith, BONE, and the Changing Face of Comics and a 22k gold-plated coin with Phoney Bone’s head on one side, and Fone Bone on the reverse giving the dates of Bone #1 July 1991, and the 20th Anniversary July 2011. It will come in a red box, is limited to 2,000 copies and will cost $350.

–Also shipping in time for SDCC is a version of the above that, instead of the art print, includes an original piece of art by Smith and hand watercolored by Steve Hamaker. These are limited to 50 copies and cost $1,000.

–Finally, a $150 version of the hardcover that includes the timeline and cover gallery will ship in November. It comes in a slipcase.

bone was one of the best comics that I’ve read, and one of the last ones that I picked up individual issues of.  I own a colorized TPB set, and it’s very nice, but I kinda want the hardcover version, I think it’d look real nice on my bookcase.

batman pics 2011 a l Voice Cast for Animated ‘Batman: Year One’ Announced

Bryan Cranston Breaking Bad, Malcom in the Middle, whose star is seriously lighting up right now, has been cast as Commissioner Gordon; Ben McKenzie Southland is Bruce Wayne/Batman; Eliza Dushku Dollhouse, Tru Calling will be Catwoman and Katee Sackhoff Battlestar Galatica is Sarah Essen, Gordon’s love interest.

as excited as I am about another high quality Batman cartoon, I’ve seen his damn origin story about 50 times now, and it’s starting to feel like that’s all DC/WB knows how to do.  Why not do somethin that takes place a little later in Batman’s life?
